Fieldfare

Turdus pilaris

Interesting facts: The fieldfare lives in parks, gardens and the edges of forest with adjoining wet meadows. There it happily breeds in colonies, in trees or in shrubs, usually open in a fork of the trunk. Its cup-shaped nest is made of grasses, leaves and mud. During the breeding period, it feeds predominantly on earthworms and insects, in autumn and winter, mostly on berries and windfalls. Early, the birds were caught in large numbers and eaten by people.
