Interesting facts: The lapwing is best recognised in spring, when the male marks its breeding territory over fields and marshy areas with its reeling mating flight. The bird feeds predominantly on insects, earthworms and snails, but occasionally small frogs and fish are its prey. After the breeding period, the lapwing often collects in large troupes.
