Interesting facts: The spotted flycatcher is not in the least frightened of people. It likes to brood in tree hollows, but also in lamps, plant pots and empty window boxes. Large trees with many perches are important as the starting point for its hunt for insects. It likes most of all to grab insects in flight or when diving.

Characteristics: Upperside of the plumage grey-brown, forehead and pale underside speckled; broad, thin, black beak; short, black feet

Body length: Less than 20 cm (sparrow length)

Distribution: Sparse deciduous, coniferous and lowland forests, edges of woods, parks and large gardens, also in the centre of urban areas
