Interesting facts: The wren is the third smallest bird in Europe. It is also known as the “winter wren” because it even sings in winter. Its fluttering loud song is very complicated and is a combination of over 100 sounds. The male often builds several round nests, and the female chooses one. The territory is aggressively defended by the male against other wrens. In winter, the wren can even be found in garages and barns.

Characteristics: Plumage red-brown, brown, grey, distinctive lighter supercilium; typical: the tail points stiffly upwards

Body length: Around 10 cm (smaller than a sparrow)

Distribution: Urban areas, parks, allotments, woods, edges of forests, vineyards, heaths, mountains, likes being close to water
