Lesser whitethroat

Sylvia curruca

Interesting facts: The lesser whitethroat loudly recites rattling choruses and takes its name from its white throat plumage. It feeds on soft-bodied insects and their larvae. But also pollen, nectar and fleshy fruits. The little bird can be seen anywhere where there are trees and shrubs reaching to the ground. Here it hides its cup-shaped nest in grass and stems, usually close to the ground.

Body length: Around 10 cm (smaller than a sparrow)

Distribution: Partly open landscapes with plenty of bushes, edges of forests, copses, hedges, parks, gardens
